Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1998

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

Expressive aromas of cassis, blackberry, roast coffee, smoked meat and bitter chocolate. Juicy and gutsy, but a bit tough today; flavors come across as reasonably ripe but the wine lacks real texture and pliancy. Finishes with somewhat tough tannins ... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1998 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

The deep nose offers abundant aromas of blackberry, coffee grounds and forest floor. Splendidly layered on the palate, the primary fruit of youth is still evident, though now complemented by more complex notes of chocolate, coffee and saddle leather... Alex Shaw. Lots to admire here, with layers of mocha, vanilla, currant, black cherry and blackberry, turning elegant, with cedar and tobacco notes on the finish. Drink now through 2007. 17,000 cases made.
