Fans of this wine know that it is almost always made in a no holds barred, full-on powerful style that is breathtaking in its muscularity though it can sometimes be over the top. Yet in vintages that naturally provide some restraint such as 1996, the wine can be a revelation because of the perfect balance between a wonderfully detailed, mineral laden mid-palate combined with the richness and generosity on the nose and finish. I generally like the Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne despite the fact that it is hardly classic in style and this 96 is particularly successful. It should age gracefully for many years to come.
