Joseph Drouhin Musigny 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2014 Musigny Grand Cru was picked on September 19 and contains 15% whole cluster fruit this year. Interestingly, this Musigny was bottled on August 14 (as far as I know, the earlier bottled Musigny this vintage, though I could be wrong!). It has a well defined bouquet, red rather than black fruit today: raspberry preserve, tobacco, wild strawberry and a touch of peppermint. It seems to gain complexity in the glass. The palate is smooth in the mouth, very supple with quite firm tannin. This is a more masculine Musigny than others, like the Bonnes-Mares quite strict with a touch of Hoisin on the finish. In 1880, Joseph Drouhin, who was from the Chablis region originally, chose the city of Beaune to found the business that bears his name.  Over the years and with each generation, the vineyard estate grew.  At the same time, the founder's passionate search for excellence and knowledge was handed down like a family heirloom; Maison Joseph Drouhin continues to ensure this valuable family heritage. Dedication to the diversity of Burgundy has always been the sole focus and vocation of Maison Joseph Drouhin, as vineyards - mostly premier and grand crus - were acquired in all major areas.   Out of firm conviction, Drouhin has adopted a biological and biodynamic approach to viticulture.  Listening to nature: from vine to glass, at every step in the elaboration of the wine, a profound respect and deference to nature prevails. From its very beginning, Maison Joseph Drouhin has aimed for an ideal of perfection and elegance.  The style of Joseph Drouhin combines balance, harmony and character, providing infinite pleasure.   Thanks to its open-minded world view, Joseph Drouhin introduces the best of Burgundy to all continents.  Its active presence in many countries is the surest proof of its desire to get acquainted and understand other cultures and styles of living. transluscent ruby color. decanted for 2 reserved nose with cinnamon, clove, brown sugar and raspberries. The palate initally is dominated by a core of acid that provides tremendous energy which intergrates over time, and the wine fleshes out and becomes silky and sneaky long. very, very good wine- a classy middleweight.

stunning. still plenty of tannin, but starting to melt somewhat and this is adding complexity by the day.

Musigny is a wine of great purity of colour, with deep ruby-like reflections. The tannins are quite elegant, while very much alive. Silk and velvet are the main attributes of the texture. rare, exotic woods and candied cherry dominate the aftertaste.
