Joseph Drouhin Macon Village 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot is another simply stunning wine in the making. The deep, complex and classy nose offers up a refined mix of cherries, plums, woodsmoke, a great base of soil, coffee, fresh herb tones and a deft base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very sappy at the core, with wonderful transparency, ripe tannins and outstanding focus and grip on the very, very long and primary finish. A simply great bottle of Clos Vougeot in the making...94+" JG 12/11 "A softly wooded nose where there is a touch of toast frames earthy, reticent and ripe aromas of pungent earth, dark berry fruit and plum. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract, indeed to the point that this seems less structured than it really is though it’s not so much that the hallmark youthful austerity of a fine Clos de Vougeot is effaced. As would be expected from this terroir in an excellent vintage, this will require plenty of cellar time to resolve the tannins and flesh out but it should be more than worth the wait...92-94" BH 4/12 "Drouhin owns two parcels, a total of 2.25 acres, in Clos de Vougeot on ta slight incline facing East. In 2010, this was vinified with a large portion of whole bunches, the vintage yielding a wine of power and grace, formed in a seemingly perfect sphere. The vibrant color parallels the brightness of the flavor, its red berry freshness preserved in floral scents and a gentle touch of earthiness that reverberates underneath. A Classic...94" W&S 10/12

The color of the wine is bright and limpid. The nose is floral and fruity. Very straightforward and direct on the palate, as if biting into a grape. Fresh and light, with a very pleasant aftertaste.
