Joseph Drouhin Laforet Bourgogne Rouge 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Call this the "house red" of the great and historic Burgundy house of Joseph Drouhin--a Pinot Noir that's loaded with hints of ripe, red fruits like cherry and raspberry. The 2012 Laforet is a fine introduction to the wonders of red Burgundy, as well as a terrific everyday red.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Somewhat flat and bland with some red cherry and decent acidity. This could use more fruit and/or body.

First France Pinot Noir. Not bad at all. Very Pale and translucent slightly brown Ruby Color. Very dry with more of a spice, mineral, musty, and earth nose and taste than fruit. Fruit when it came is more of a sour plum/cherry. Compared this to a bit of the Sierra del Mar California Pinot. the Reverse Wine Snob has a review of this @ http://www.reversewinesnob.com/2013/08/joseph-drouhin-laforet-bourgogne.html

Light to medium bodies with ripe fruits. Stands on its own nicely but went well with the pork tenderloin we enjoyed this with for dinner tonight.

Rich and drier than a traditional Pinot Noir. Black earth undertones. Great and drinkable without overpowering.

A wine full of charm: bright ruby color and a nose rich with aromas of red fruit (raspberry, red currants, wild strawberry). On the palate, the wine is pleasant, fruity and refreshing, with light tannins and great elegance. It is not a wine we recommend to cellar for many years. Drink it when young, up to two or three years. We suggest serving Laforet at 59° F-61° F. Easy to match with food, it will be best with assorted deli meats, poultry, white meat, "au gratin" dishes, roasted meat and soft cheese. - Winery

The hue has usually a brillant ruby-garnet colour. The nose offers effusive aromas of crushed berries (raspberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant come to mind). On the palate, the wine is full of charm and very pleasant to drink : fresh and fruity berry flavours with light and elegant tannins.

BH 93pts. - WA 91pts. - IWC 90pts. - Winemaker Notes - Everything that I love about the 07 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is accentuated in the 07 Laur ne even more complexity, more fruit, and more loveliness. The trademark of the vintage for us is its precision, the purity of flavor, clearly layered across the palate. The texture is very fine, and the flavors are a burst of fresh red fruits, in contrast to the darker fruits of recent vintages. As I hope for, the finish is very long, and I expect that we can all enjoy the 2007 Laur ne for at least 10 years or more!
