Joseph Drouhin Griottes-Chambertin 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

"The nose offers up a rather reserved mélange of cassis, black cherries, grilled meat, bitter chocolate, soil and fresh herbs. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and a bit shaken at the present time, with a solid core of fruit and very good length and grip on the finish. This needs a bit more time to snap back into focus after the recent bottling, but I have little worries about its ultimate quality...91-94?" JBG 12/07. "...required especially rigorous selection and gentle extraction... seems to have paid off. A healthy ruddy color is matched by flavors of fresh sour cherry and red raspberry wreathed in narcissus and herbs, and leading to a bright, invigorating finish with undertones of sandalwood, salt, beef marrow, moss, and chalk. This might not be the last word in ripeness or be especially texturally rich, but it is full of energy and grand cru in its sheer, penetrating persistence...92" WA 12/09

Domaine Drouhin has been on the viticultural cutting edge in Oregon since our first plantings, and we continue to set the pace. The 90 acres of hillside vineyards that ribbon our 225-acre estate are at the very heart of Domaine Drouhin wines. Philippe Drouhin is in charge of all of the estate vineyards in Oregon & Burgundy & it is his vision & passion that drives our advances & improvements in winegrowing year after year. Situated atop the Dundee Hills, between 400 and 800 feet in elevation, our site was selected for its remarkable similarity in climate, latitude and aspect to the legendary vineyards of Burgundy. DDO places more emphasis on viticulture than most producers in America. Our vines are perhaps the most densely-planted in the New World, with an average of 3,300 plants to the acre. We are also one of the few vineyards in the country to cultivate our own rootstocks and propagate all of our own plant materials. This allows us to further our vineyards with site specific rootstocks and plants. Read less

LaForet Pinot Noir has a brilliant ruby-garnet color. The nose offers effusive aromas of crushed berries (raspberry, redcurrant, and blackcurrant come to mind). On the palate, the wine is full of charm and very pleasant to drink - fresh and fruity berry flavors with light and elegant tannins.
