Joseph Drouhin Cote de Beaune Rouge 2015

Member Review by vin0vin0:

Extremely enjoyable red Burdundy. A little light on the nose but a good amount of crisp dark berries, some red cherry and excellent acidity.

In 1880, Joseph Drouhin, who was from the Chablis region originally, chose the city of Beaune to found the business that bears his name.  Over the years and with each generation, the vineyard estate grew.  At the same time, the founder's passionate search for excellence and knowledge was handed down like a family heirloom; Maison Joseph Drouhin continues to ensure this valuable family heritage. Dedication to the diversity of Burgundy has always been the sole focus and vocation of Maison Joseph Drouhin, as vineyards - mostly premier and grand crus - were acquired in all major areas.   Out of firm conviction, Drouhin has adopted a biological and biodynamic approach to viticulture.  Listening to nature: from vine to glass, at every step in the elaboration of the wine, a profound respect and deference to nature prevails. From its very beginning, Maison Joseph Drouhin has aimed for an ideal of perfection and elegance.  The style of Joseph Drouhin combines balance, harmony and character, providing infinite pleasure.   Thanks to its open-minded world view, Joseph Drouhin introduces the best of Burgundy to all continents.  Its active presence in many countries is the surest proof of its desire to get acquainted and understand other cultures and styles of living. Want fragrant? Enjoy the cherry, nut, and cinnamon aromas in this medium-bodied wine—made in Burgundy from Pinot Noir by one of the most reliable négociants(the French term for wine shipper and blender). The flavors of red fruit compote are strong, but the wine itself is dry, with a great, silky mouthfeel and soft tannins.

Definitely distinctive and not entirely a surprise when one considers the chalky soil and SOUTH/SOUTH EAST EXPOSURE, and that we are talking BEAUNE. Pretty, feminine, raspberry and red-fruit flavours. It is the smoothness of the tannins which strike me most. Really nice on the finish. True "PINOR NOIRESQUE" harmony and soft delicacy which I so love.......... that delicately structured and framed understated sophistication...like the way I dress. ENJOY...CHEERS...DROUHIN IS GOOD STUFF.

Wonderful, sparkling red color emanating from the glass. Somewhat atypical tomato juice consistency of the wine upon entry into the mouth - with all the usual strawberry and sweet cherry aroma operating on the olfactory bulbs. This wine is surprisingly dense - more like a Pommard from an average vintage. Definitely a wine aiming above its station. Drinking well now, but will last 3-5 years with prudent cellaring.

Nice light, dry, well-balanced. Clean finish. Not alot of character, but well structured. Good value.

I just love this wine. It's so easy to drink. I had bought a case and just finished the last bottle (I had forgotten it). I need to get more.

Weingut: Joseph DrouhinLand: FrankreichRegion: BurgundRebsorte: Pinot NoirInhalt: 0,75 lLagerfähigkeit: 5 - 7 Jahre ab Jahrgang Fassreife: in Barriques gereift (12 Monate)Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 12-16°C Rotwein > Frankreich > Burgund

'A very pleasant wine. Bright, clear red colour. Aromas are surprising in their intensity and fruit. On the palate, a tender, supple, graceful, round body. Very flavourful in the aftertaste, with a hint of blackberry jam. When the wine gets older, wild blackberry is the dominant aroma. After 3 or 5 years, the wine takes on a distinctive smell of truffle and undergrowth evolving towards notes of venison'.

Here the nose is more dominated by the pungent earth aromas that add nuance to the otherwise pretty red berry fruit and underbrush notes where the earth continues onto the reasonably precise and vibrant flavors that culminate in a slightly edgy finish.` (Burghound 04/08)

Precise expression of red fruit flavors, lift, and refreshment are usually part and parcel of this appellation's charm chez Drouhin, and the 2006 Chorey-les-Beaune delivers those virtues in abundance, while offering an at once soothing and invigorati...
