Joseph Drouhin Clos de Vougeot 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

"_Don't Miss! _A very ripe nose features notes of plum, cassis, humus, forest floor and violet. The velvet-textured, concentrated and very serious big-bodied flavors possess seemingly endless reserves of sappy dry extract which helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the mocha-infused finish. This beautifully complex effort is less austere than it usually is at this point though the structure makes it pointedly clear that this is going to age for a very long time." - Allen Meadows, Burghound *(95 Points)*

Joseph Drouhin:
In 1880, Joseph Drouhin, who was from the Chablis region originally, chose the city of Beaune to found the business that bears his name.  Over the years and with each generation, the vineyard estate grew.  At the same time, the founder's passionate search for excellence and knowledge was handed down like a family heirloom; Maison Joseph Drouhin continues to ensure this valuable ... In 1880, Joseph Drouhin, who was from the Chablis region originally, chose the city of Beaune to found the business that bears his name.  Over the years and with each generation, the vineyard estate grew.  At the same time, the founder's passionate search for excellence and knowledge was handed down like a family heirloom; Maison Joseph Drouhin continues to ensure this valuable family heritage. Dedication to the diversity of Burgundy has always been the sole focus and vocation of Maison Joseph Drouhin, as vineyards - mostly premier and grand crus - were acquired in all major areas.   Out of firm conviction, Drouhin has adopted a biological and biodynamic approach to viticulture.  Listening to nature: from vine to glass, at every step in the elaboration of the wine, a profound respect and deference to nature prevails. From its very beginning, Maison Joseph Drouhin has aimed for an ideal of perfection and elegance.  The style of Joseph Drouhin combines balance, harmony and character, providing infinite pleasure.   Thanks to its open-minded world view, Joseph Drouhin introduces the best of Burgundy to all continents.  Its active presence in many countries is the surest proof of its desire to get acquainted and understand other cultures and styles of living. A softly wooded nose where there is a touch of toast frames earthy reticent and ripe aromas of pungent earth dark berry fruit and plum. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract indeed to the point that this seems less structured than it really is though it s not so much that the hallmark youthful austerity of a fine Clos de Vougeot is effaced. As would be expected from this terroir in an excellent vintage this will require plenty of cellar time to resolve the tannins and flesh out but it should be more than worth the wait. Burghound.

Palish red with a hint of evolution at the rim. Aromatic nose combines red cherry strawberry spices and flowers. Intensely flavored and approachable with good intensity to the red fruit and spice flavors. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. Not the last word in complexity but this is already quite tasty. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

As I have observed several times Clos de Vougeot was particularly successful in 2006 and this example is in perfect keeping with that general tendency with an expressive spicy and unusually open nose that offers up aromas of earth red and dark berry fruit and hints of the sauvage that continue onto the ripe intense and youthfully austere flavors that culminate with good power and length. Despite the obvious muscle this is essentially a Clos de Vougeot of finesse as the tannins are really quite fine. Burghound 92 points.
