- Philippe Drouhin was away during my mid-July visit and thus I did not obtain the information and background that I usually do. As a group however, the Drouhin '05s are impressive, in particular at the grand cru level. In particular I found the wood influence that the Drouhin Chablis examples often carry to be more modulated and deft. (Dreyfus Ashby, New York, NY; Dreyfus Ashby, Lea & Sandeman and Howard Ripley, all of the UK). Note: from a 1 ha parcel This too has a moderate amount of wood on the nose of white flower, spice and liquid stone aromas that continue onto the exceptionally rich, ripe read more...and incredibly intense flavors that have minerality to burn on the explosive finish. One can just feel the vigor and solid acid spine that is buffered completely by the impressive dry extract level. In sum, this is a refined yet forceful effort that will age for up to a decade.
