What to Expect

Chablis is a region of France's Burgundy region responsible for some of the most distinctive expressions of the Chardonnay grape. On the limestone rich soils of the area, Chardonnay produces wines that can be steely, yet rich with orchard fruits and mineral tones. Unlike the typical white Burgundy, most Chablis sees little or no new oak which allows the grape to express itself with a purity that barrel aging can obscure. Often quite reticent in their youth, Chablis may require several years of ageing in order to be able to fully express the depth and richness it keeps in reserve.

Winemakers Notes

Robert DROUHIN, on his first visit, fell in love with Chablis. Since it is now possible to control frost and to cultivate steep slopes with tractors, it became clear to Robert DROUHIN that what was happening in Côte d'Or could be successfully duplicated in Chablis. After a painstaking research involving study of ancient maps, conversations with old vignerons and tasting of old bottles from abandoned terroirs, Robert DROUHIN was able to locate the best parcels, especially those located in the valley of Vauvillien. To-day, Joseph DROUHIN owns 40 hectares (100 acres), with a sizeable read more...

Reviews

This chablis is nice a smooth, no after taste. It has a light body and buttery but crisp and fresh. I would recommend this Chablis.

The colour of Chablis is pale straw with green tinges. There is a fruity and fragrant nose, reminiscent of mint leaves and, at times, lemongrass. It is generally medium to full bodied with a characteristic flinty aftertaste. Chablis usually ages 5 to 8 years. It is excellent served as an aperitif or with seafood, such as oysters, sea shells and fish. Tropical fruit scents with obvious new oak aromas. Rather approachable and creamy with butterscotch and brown spice flavors. Lengthy close with a continuation of the tropical fruit theme. -Wine News

Chablis Premier Cru has very attractive and intense aromas reminiscent of coriander, orange, lemon and many other intriguing flavours. Generous, round and long on the palate, it is also full bodied with refreshing vivacity. The wine can be kept 7 to 8 years in the cellar, or even more in a good vintage. It is also pleasant at 3 or 4 years of age. The essence of chardonnay, this bright wine offers flavors at the intersection of peach, pear and the flinty spice of limestone. The texture is luscious, yet the flavors have a laserlike precision and tightness, a mouthwatering fruitiness-as if derived from read more...

It's hard to find a better chardonnay for the price. This one has a dry and fruity mouthfeel with an excellent aftertaste of butterscotch. I highly recommend it to fans of chardonnay.
