Joseph Carr Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2008
This is our first vintage of Central Coast Pinot Noir. This offering comes from vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountain Range, as well as the Edna Valley. It reflects two unique terroirs and flavors that I most associate with Burgundy and the Côtes de Nuits. Selecting the right combination of Dijon clones to assemble this small production greatly influenced the winemaking process, and hence, we chose to acknowledge this wine with the moniker “Dijon Clone.”

Our classic Pinot Noir is rich with fruit tones of black cherry, raspberry, rose petals, blackberryand black currant, with undertones of baking spices, chocolate, toast and clove. Smooth onthe palate, with good acidity revealing layers of silky mouth-filling strawberry seed, cherry,mixed berry, plum fruit, and pomegranate, mingled with spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg,and clove, with hints of roses, violets, and black tea. Toasty vanilla oak notes and lusciousflavors end in a very long silky touch to a layered and lengthy finish.

Always ever-elusive, our Central Coast Pinot Noir offers cherry, and dark wild raspberry in both the bouquet and taste. I also find aromatic violets, tea, strawberry seed, and hints of mushroom. The wine shows very good structure with balanced, yet approachable tannins.
