Joseph Carr Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

My rating of this wine is based on price vs. quality ratio and I know Joe. His goal is to utilize the philosophy that great wine can be drunk every day as a part of the culture the old world embraces and the new is coming to know. It just has to be at a price everyone can appreciate. I think he's done a phenomenal job at making high quality wines for the category with a package and message that elevates him by philosophy alone. One glass and you'll know what I am talking about; rarely will you find a wine that can be obtained for less than $20 that performs at the $35-40 level and Joseph Carr has done so with the greatest of ease.

The 04 was awesome, the 05 I'll pass on it.

Good rich red fruit and solid structure. Nice and rich. A real classic california cab. A little tart on the finish, but not much to worry about. Decent backbone. Very pleasant all round.

after the 2004 vintage this needs to be sent to the salad dressing factory.......hello Thousand Island.....goodbye taste tasting....

A harmonious Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah boasts big black fruit with woodsy/smokey/leathery undertones and scents. My wife and I both experienced the slightest maple notes, which was very interesting and enjoyable. I picked up a bunch on sale and have been chipping away at it enjoying the bottling consistency and velvety tannins. I read that grapes are brought in from a number of great vineyards including: Sycamore, Rutherford Bench, St Helena, Beckstoffer, Chateau Montelana and Diamond Mountain.

The 04 was great, the 05 isn't even in the same ballpark, not nearly worth 20 bones.
