Salt and pepper on red berry fruit along with turned soil on the nose. Dry on the palate. Nicely layered with black pepper, earth with dark red and black berry fruit. Smoke, maduro cigar wrapper. This will evolve nicely with more time. 88 pts. 9/1/12 at winery

A spicy nose of crushed rock, licorice and black cherry, with sweet spices like nutmeg and cinnamon coming out with air. The mouth is nicely vibrant with flavors of fig and cherry, leather, balsamic and mineral, and a lingering, spicy finish.

The 2010 Cotes de Tablas is a bit more accessible than some of the single-variety wines because of its medium-bodied structure. Dark red cherries, flowers and tobacco float through to the medium-bodied, refined finish, where a dash of Counoise adds lift. The 2010 is 46% Grenache, 39% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Counoise. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.

The grapes for this rosé come from vines that were originally imported from the famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard, Château de Beaucastel and are now certified organic. This is a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Counoise and is made in limited quantities. A nose of watermelon, mineral and plum explodes from the glass followed with bright cherry, finishing with lime and tangarine on the palate. Pair it with Mediterranean cuisine, Spanish tapas, preparations with garlic and olive oil... or just enjoy it outside on a sunny day.

Winemaker's Notes:

89 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): (59% mourvèdre, 30% grenache and 11% counoise): Dark pink. Pungent, assertive aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant and rhubarb, with a spicy overtone. Fleshy but dry, offering powerful red berry and bitter cherry flavors and a late jolt of white pepper. Finishes with good tangy bite and lingering red fruit notes. A serious rendition of pink wine, with the oomph to handle full-flavored foods, even red meats. (Jun 2011)
