Bodegas Jorge Ordoñez is a winemaking venture formed in 2004 between the Kracher family from Austria and the Ordoñez famly from Spain, as well as various friends and wine-loving entrepreneurs, based in Malaga, Spain. The winery is overseen by brother and sister winemakers Jorge and Victoria Ordoñez and Alistair Gardner is principal winemaker. The above-mentioned Kracher is none other than Alois Kracher, known for producing some of the world’s most renown Austrian sweet dessert wines. His son, Gerhard, joined the project creatively in 2008.
The project is dedicated to producing dessert wine styles using modern innovations and techniques, made from the varietal Muscat of Alexandria. Among an impressive portfolio, they are the first in modern history to produce a naturally sweet, unfortified Moscatel wine. This method has not been produced since sweet fortified wines gained popularity in the 17th century when brandy was added to the wine to stabilize it for the long sea voyage back to England.
