Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2013

External Review by We Speak Wine:

The 2013 exemplifies our move to a higher percentage of French oak to complement the natural grape tannin found in the collection of grower vineyards that have been the soul of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon since 2006. What began as one of the warmest, driest and earliest growing seasons on record, 2013 had moderate weather throughout summer, allowing the grapes to develop very intense, concentrated flavors with lots of structure. 2013 is the richest, most complex Jordan I’ve tasted upon release. — Rob Davis, winemaker Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Intense aromas of cassis, black currants, blackberries and ripe cherries with a lovely floral note. The palate is rich and seductive, exuding blackberries and cassis interwoven seamlessly with fine tannins from new French oak barrels. Its masculine structure is harnessed by a beautiful balance of acidity and dark fruits with a long, cassis-laced finish. A collectible vintage to be enjoyed now or cellared through 2032. Decant for 45 to 60 minutes to further elevate aromas and flavors. Chef’s Pairing Suggestions: The 2013 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon’s dark fruits, rich palate and fine tannin structure make it a versatile companion at the table. Though a natural pairing for a flavorful steak, this wine’s balance of fruit, tannin and acidity beautifully complement grilled or roasted dishes, such as herb-crusted lamb, pork belly or rosemary chicken. Varietal Blend: 75.5% Cabernet Sauvignon 15.5% Merlot 7% Petit Verdot 1.5% Malbec 0.5% Cabernet Franc Aging: 83% French and 17% American oak barrels for 12 months; 43% new oak consisted of 86% French, 14% American. Alcohol: 13.8% T.A.: 0.68 g/100mL pH: 3.44 R.S.: 0.03%

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Concentrated aromas of blackberries and black cherries with an inviting hint of cedar. The wine’s silky palate is long and expansive, boasting a beautiful balance of black fruit and fine tannin structure. Its finish is lively, lingering and laced with a sweetness of fruit. A deliciously seductive wine to be enjoyed now or cellared through 2028. Decant for 60 to 90 minutes to elevate aromas and flavors. Chef’s Pairing Suggestions: The 2012 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon’s luscious fruit, round structure and lower alcohol make it a versatile companion at the dinner table. This wine’s French oak aging helps complement grilled fare, such as lamb, steak, pork or chicken, and its dark fruit flavors will stand up to richer dishes, such as veal tenderloin with a wine sauce, mushroom risotto or duck confit. Its medium body highlights lighter dishes as well—think spiced ahi tuna, grilled steak salad and charcuterie. Varietal Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon 16% Merlot 5% Petit Verdot 2% Malbec Ageing: 69% French and 31% American oak barrels for 12 months; 41% new oak consisted of 73% French, 27% American. Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas of fresh cranberry and red cherry mingle with enticing notes of cassis, chocolate and tobacco. The wine is round, soft and refined with elegant flavors of red currant, freshly cut herbs, vanilla bean and allspice. Predominantly French oak aging lends structure to the mid-palate with soft tannins and an inviting mouthfeel, balanced by a backbone of clean acidity. This wine’s enduring finish makes it perfectly suited to enjoy today or cellar worthy through 2022-2027. Decant for 30 minutes prior to serving to further enhance aromas and flavors. Chef’s Pairing Suggestions: This wine’s style makes it ideal for diverse food pairings. It will shine with savory meat dishes, such as herb-crusted lamb or roasted chicken, allowing the fruit in the wine to take center stage. Play up the delicacy of the fruit by pairing this Bordeaux-style blend with an unexpected cheese course like fresh chèvre goat cheese with Herbes de Provence. Cooperages: Five French and two American barrel coopers selected based on blind tastings and 2011 vintage flavor profile; primarily medium toast. Ageing: 12 months in 73% French and 27% American oak barrels; 37% new oak (62% French, 38% American). Bottle aged an additional 22 months prior to release. Varietal Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon 17% Merlot 3% Petit Verdot 1% Malbec Alcohol: 13.8% T.A.: 0.60 g/100mL pH: 3.59 R.S.: 0.03%
