Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2002 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon spent 15 days in stainless steel tanks completing primary fermentation, followed by three weeks in large, upright oak tanks for malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged in 65% French and 35% American oak barrels for 12 months, then in large, upright oak tanks for an additional three months. After a total of 18 months in oak the wine was bottled and aged for another 17 months prior to release. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc; 13.5% alcohol.

Wine Tasting NotesThe continued addition of fruit from estate hillside vineyards and the blending of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot with the Cabernet Sauvignon are responsible for the well integrated flavors, deep color and full mouth feel of the 2002 vintage. The bouquet is highlighted with aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark chocolate, with undertones of sweet tobacco and cedar. The 2002 Cabernet is very rich in texture with opulent flavors of ripe blackberry, cherry and cassis. This Cabernet has a lingering finish of subtle earth, cigar tobacco, cedar, and a well integrated and restrained framework of oak.

Considered a vintage of patience and arguably this decade’s greatest, 2002 has evolved into a ringer for Left Bank Bordeaux with its silky-smooth tannins and layers of complex cherry and cassis fruit. This is an ever-changing wine that is tasting magnificent this year. Decant 30 minutes prior to serving. Drink now through 2017.
