Johnson Estate Winery Seyval Blanc 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Johnson Estate is the family owned vineyards of nearly 400 acres of vineyards sited in the lower Waihopai Valley on the terraces of the Omaka River. Bryan and Jan Johnson established the first of their 380 acres of estate vineyards in 1993. Pioneers in what was then a Marlborough sub region, the Lower Waihopai development continued with fruit being grown and sold to other wine companies. This is a classic fruit-driven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with great complexity from ageing on the Lees. Intense passion fruit and grapefruit aromas are expressed on the nose with superb purity of flavour and vibrant acidity.

Family-owned and operated. Specializing in world-class Riesling and ice wines - including red and white ice wine. Grapes have been grown on the Johnson Estate for well over a century, and the Johnson Winery, established in 1961, is now the oldest exclusively estate winery in New York State. All of the choice European and American wine grapes used to make our wines are grown within 3000 feet of the winery. This allows us to take full advantage of the chateau system of wine-growing and making. Every vintage is a “handcrafted” limited production, and the entire vinification process, including the crushing, pressing, fermentation, aging, and bottling occurs on the estate under the Johnson Family’s direct control. Thus, the superb quality of our wine is constantly supervised from the vineyard to the bottle, and, like the finest wines of Europe, Johnson Estate wines are “grown, vinified and bottled in the Chateau Tradition.” Read less
