John Tyler Wines Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Bacigalupi Vineyard 2008

Member Review by vin0vin0:

Fantastic RRV pinot noir with lots of dark fruit (blackberries, dark cherries), plenty of acidity, great balance and a very nice, long finish. Loads of layers and complexity, one of the nicest Pinots we've had.

I am behind the Hollywood curve of loving Pinot Noir. I don't dislike it, but I haven't quite caught the "Pinot-fever" that was brought about by the film "Sideways." With this offering from John Tyler, I can start to see what all the hype is about. The nose is a complex mix of strawberries, spice, and a whiff of gasoline. The pomegranate and strawberry flavors explode onto the palette, with a little hint of earthiness bringing the flavors into balance. The finish is cedar and sharp cheddar cheese overtones, while the berries linger for what seems like an inordinate amount of time. All in all, a complex wine not lacking in delicious factor - a stand out in my Pinot experience and a definite must for the cellar.
