Johannishof Riesling Kabinett Rheingau Johannisberg V 2007

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

The 2002 Riesling Kabinett Johannisberg "V" is good. Its stone-laden aromatics lead to a light to medium-bodied, pure flavor profile composed of minerals and tangy quinine. Projected maturity: now-2008.

You might expect a wine that smells like baked apples and poached pears to be soft and mushy, yet this wine finishes stony and crisp - in fine balance with its 10% alcohol and slightly viscous mouthfeel.

There's an opulence here, but understated, as the high-toned floral, peach and mineral notes unfold against a vivid acidity. Incisive, yet not laserlike, this will develop nicely. Drink now through 2015.

This is firm and taut, with flavors of litchi, pink grapefruit and fresh pear. The acidity elongates the flavors on the finish, complemented by a stony minerality.

Offers a terrific combination of fresh peach and nectarine fruit and mineral. Vibrant, succulent and harmonious, with a long, mouthwatering finish and a nice savory aftertaste. Drink now through 2022.

This has the power and weight of the Rheingau, but also the delicate floral nuances of the Mosel. Scents of flower-shop greens, crushed-stone and lime easily glide into flavors of melon and citrus, underscored by a strong mineral component. Long, intense and refreshing on the finish.

A happy marriage of deep, luscious peach fruit, slate-tinged minerality and a balanced injection of sharp acidity. This is the kind of Riesling that Rheingau lovers crave!
