The Prum 2011 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett leads with scents of mint-tinged cassis and Golden Delicious apple, but the softness that these intimate on the palate doesn’t really materialize thanks to tart apple skin and piquant apple pip and grapefruit rind impingements, all the way through a bitter-sweet interchange of flavors leading into a satisfyingly sustained albeit rounded-off, delicate and soothing finish. Greater complexity and a sense of transparency may well emerge with time — and one can count on two decades’ high performance — but I doubt that this will ever display the interactive dynamic of the corresponding Bernkasteler.
Ample aromas of fresh apple tropical fruit and lemon oil. Honeyed and rich but with a delicacy to its papaya fruit this spatlese is kept alive by its understated acidity. Conveys a clear refreshing slate character on the spicy finish. 91+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.
Features an intense savory aroma with racy flavors of slate sea salt and white pepper accented by green apple and white cherry notes. Airy and light on the vibrant finish which offers touches of elegance. Drink now through 2038.
From a mixture of Bernkastel and Graach sites plus a bit of Wehlen, the generic Prum 2011 Riesling Kabinett displays aromas already way above its station in complexity, featuring penetrating and metaphorically cooling scents of spearmint, apple blossom, fresh apple, cherry and lime, all of which - along with lusciously-dripping honeydew melon - then figure on a delicately refreshing, subtly spritzy palate that finishes with mouthwatering juiciness and impeccably-integrated, entirely discreet residual sugar. This fine value - whose May bottling, incidentally, was the estate's first - will deliver delightful satisfaction for at least a dozen years. This features ripe lime and slate notes on an elegant frame, with lively hints of white chocolate and vanilla. The rich finish of peaches and cream is accented by light, smoky notes. Drink now through 2020. -KM Apricot and mint on the nose. Supple papaya fruit on the palate. The appealing fini...
S.A Prüm is a family-owned wine estate nestled on the banks of Germany’s serene Mosel River, at the heart of the country’s celebrated Mosel-Saar-Ruwer growing region. Here, the Prüm family has cultivated vines for over 200 years. The estate has been in the hands of Raimund Prüm, owner and winemaker, since 1971 when he assumed full management. Under his leadership, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings. Production Area This estate-bottled, single-vineyard Riesling is produced from grapes grown in the famed Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard which has recently been designated an Erste Lage – or top vineyard site by the VDP. . The steep, south to southwest faced slopes are one of the top vineyards of the Mosel region. Devon slate and the light soil create a special and unique flavor in the wines with high minerals and lean style. In 1842 Jodocus Prüm, built sundials (sonnenuhr) in the best parts of the Wehlen and Zeltingen vineyards in order to display the time to the vintners. These sundials have since become a icon for the winery and vineyard. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification After careful selection, grapes were hand-harvested and are fermented in stainless steel for two months, followed by six months of aging. Aging capacity is twenty-five years. Color Golden color Bouquet Ripe fruit, peaches and apricot, solid, clean and good balance with the notes characteristic of a perfect Riesling. Taste Great structure with a little lime and citrus. Prominent mineral notes from the gray slate and outstanding vineyard site. Alcohol 9.5% Serving Suggestions Perfect to enjoy as an aperitif or in combination with blue cheeses, or creamy cheeses like fresh goat cheese. An excellent match for terrines, paté, and Asian cuisine. A wine for a special event always with a big presentation effect.
Shows a well-defined richness to the lusciously fruity flavors of apricot, honeydew melon and white raspberry. A lattice structure supports plenty of spice and white chocolate notes. Finishes with candied ginger. Drink now through 2022. -KM Wine Spectator. A Riesling wine from Mosel Saar Ruwer in Germany. 2011 Joh Jos Prum Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr 750ml
