External Reviews for Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Spätlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr
Poised, intense and almost embarassingly rich in texture and focus - without, I might add, being the least bit overbearing. In short, it's great Riesling, juggling all the elements that it seems only a great Riesling can accomodate. And it's got a few years on it now, so it offers a great chance to see the many interesting things that some aging will do to what is arguably the most ageworthy white varietal.
Young and unevolved, yet this shows remarkable clarity and delicacy for 2003. Very silky in texture and bright, framing the apricot, lime and slate flavors nicely. Very harmonious, with a long, lingering aftertaste. Drink now through 2020.
Impressive aromas of fruit and earth. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, with ripe fruit flavors and a moderate finish. A bit rustic. Drink now.
A completely seductive and appealing '01 spatlese. Seamless and airy in texture, yet layered with peach, citrus and mineral aromas and flavors enmeshed in the delicate frame. Lovely finish. Drink now through 2015.
Terrific from start to finish. Aromatic, densely flavored and rich, with slate, lime and peach elements on a seamless, well-defined structure. The finish takes on another dimension, and makes it look effortless.
The bouquet blossoms in a floral way that seems typical for the 2003 vintage here, as is this wine's imposingly creamy texture. Elegance, lift, clarity, refinement and florality characterize the flavors throughout. In another reflection of the vintage, the essential fruit here is quince rather than apple, tinged with bittersweet vanilla and flowers and a subtle hint of white raisin. Ethereal fruit, flowers and wet stone really cling in the finish.
