J.J. Prüm is a member of the Großer Ring Verband Deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitätsweingüter. The estate has 14 acres of holdings in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyards. Only Riesling is grown and harvested at these sites. The most important of these sites are Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Graacher Himmelreich, in terms of both quantity and quality for the winery. Seventy percent of the vines are ungrafted. Depending on the vintage, the average annual production is 10,000 to 13,000 cases of wine. Stuart Pigott says of J.J. Prum that "since the early 1920's its wines have been among Germany’s best Rieslings with the Mosel’s vivacious aroma and racy elegance in its highest form". Wine writer Stephen Brook says that "The wines, whether a modest Kabinett or an opulent Beerenauslese, are the epitome of filigree elegance: light in body but intense in flavour, exquisitely balanced and precisely tuned, and capable of the most extra-ordinary longevity".  Read less

Teriffic auslese. Pure, vibrant and elegant, with a panoply of peach, lime and slate aromas and flavors matched to a seamless frame. Lovely aftertaste of baked apple and vanilla. Drink now through 2025.

The Prum 2009 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese mingles spiced apple, papaya, pink grapefruit, cassis, and white raisin in a lush, creamily-textured, pungently botrytis-tinged performance full-throated from nose through peacockrsquo;s finishing flourish, and hard to beat for sheer diversity and audacity of fruit. If yoursquo;re looking for nuance of for characteristics that might be described as in any sense ldquo;mineral, rdquo; then perhaps in a dozen years yoursquo;ll find them here, otherwise search elsewhere. But in reality this is a wine that deserves a long time in the cellar and is apt to retain and add to its present virtues over a 30 year period.

Pale golden yellow. Fine bouquet of blackcurrant, tropical fruits and sweet herbs. Pure, rich and complex on the palate, with subtle nut oil and brown spice notes keeping the creamy custard-like flavor bright and ethereal. Unctuous yet lively, with a long, complex finish.

A live wire, this racy, vibrant Auslese gets out of the blocks like gangbusters, delivering the purest of lime, slate and apricot flavors in a rich, juicy texture, fading slightly on the finish. May firm up a little with time; best from 2000 through 2010.

Rather like apple sauce powdered with cinnamon. Creamy and mouthfilling without being the least bit heavy. Ethereal finish of apple blossom and vanillin.

Blueberry, honey apple and mint aromas. Pure, honeyed, appley and rich on the palate, with subtle suggestions of oily botrytis richness and spice. Yet there is lift and delicacy throughout, and a persistently pleasant nip of CO2, fruit skin and citrusy. The long finish is both honeyed and bright.

Seamless from start to finish. Aromas of rose, slate and smoke segue into lime and peach flavors in this elegant, stately white. Crisp and transparent, with precise balance and a classic Mosel profile. Has a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2035.
