Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett 2015

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Perhaps the most celebrated producer in Germany's esteemed Mosel Valley, Johann Joseph Prum produces outstanding single vineyard Rieslings critics praise and collectors can't get enough of. This wine from the famed Graacher Himmelreich vineyard in the Mosel River Valley is a delight. Kabinett is an off-dry (slightly sweet) wine that's one the most popular and appealing for its refreshing quality and its affinity with food. Wine Spectator just scored this wine 94 points saying "This juicy and harmonious white, with a easy-drinking character, offers complex aromas hinting at violet, black currant and peach, while the flavors pick up apple and mineral notes, all capped by a long aftertaste echoing fruit, mineral and floral elements. Drink now through 2024."

The estate has 14 acres of holdings in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyards. Only Riesling is grown and harvested at these sites. The most important of these sites are Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Graacher Himmelreich, in terms of both quantity and quality for the winery. Seventy percent of the vines are ungrafted. Depending on the vintage, the average annual production is 10,000 to 13,000 cases of wine. Stuart Pigott says of J.J. Prum that "since the early 1920's its wines have been among Germany’s best Rieslings with the Mosel’s vivacious aroma and racy elegance in its highest form". Wine writer Stephen Brook says that "The wines, whether a modest Kabinett or an opulent Beerenauslese, are the epitome of filigree elegance: light in body but intense in flavour, exquisitely balanced and precisely tuned, and capable of the most extra-ordinary longevity".  Read less
