Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Riesling Spätlese Ürziger Würzgarten 2001

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Very mineral on the nose with just a hint of green herb backing up a succulent melange of green apple. pear and apricot fruits. Rich and bright in the mouth yet finely balanced with excellent cut across the mid-palate. The apricot and green herb tinged fruit has a touch of sweet yellow tomato on the backend that leads to a very long quartzy finish. This has just entered it's prime drinking window but the phenomenal balance should ensure decades of life here. 93pts

The monks of Himmerod built the wine-cellar at that time and in 1509 the estate you can admire today. In 1804, after the secularization by Napoleon, our family could acquire the Wine Estate in Paris. Robert Eymael leads since 1994 the Wine Estate. Joke and humor paired with a quality-conscious individualism, describe his philosophy, which reflects itself in the inimitable style of its Riesling wines. Read less

Light citrus nose. Off-dry wonderfully alternating pear, apple and lemon flavors. Crisp acidity and a slight minerality. This is a pure, delicious, refreshing, delicious wine!

Sweet and very mineral. Oily and viscous with great petrol flavors. Well aged, yet still sprightly acidic with a bit of a spritz too. Great.
