Joel Gott Zinfandel Amador County Dillian Ranch 2010
Clean with a nice oaky streak running through the sweet, and slightly medicinal red fruit and pomegranate inflected nose. This has a gentle vegetal note that works well as a counterpoint to the balanced fruit and oak notes. On the palate this is smooth and balanced with fresh, complex flavors of red berry fruits, baby powder perfume, and hints of wood spice. This is decidedly middleweight with a transparent feel and hard acids that keep this fresh and lively. It’s a very drinkable, varietally correct bottle of Zinfandel. 91ptsAdd winemaker's notes

Clean and juicy but somewhat subdued for a Zin, both on the nose and on the tongue, but just enough acid to keep it from being flabby. Like a good mix of red and darker fruits in a somewhat aromatic light syrup. Pleasant but subtle medium finish, again more subtle aromatic than peppery. Refreshing and drinkable but not memorable.
A very nice Zin.
it's ok, drinks like a 9.00 bottle of wine......not memorable, other dailys exist that are better.
Very, very nice.
Excellent moderately priced zin.
Berry bouquet-- smokey oaky-- ok with me!

CaliforniaJoel Gott Zinfandel is a rare red wine gem that has steadily built a following over its first 9 vintages. This Zinfandel is considered by some "the poor man's Turley" because of its astonishing quality-to-price ratio. Joel Gott was born into a family of winemakers. His grandfather was winemaker and president of Inglenook in the '60s and 70's; his father founded Montevina; his wife Sarah has made wines for Joseph Phelps and now makes Joel Gott wines; and Joel has made some pretty good wines himself! In addition to Joel's uncanny blending ability, he has privileged access to many of the best and as yet undiscovered fruit sources in the Napa Valley. Joel Gott wines are therefore remarkable values, offering gobs of classic California fruit, good structure and excellent balance. When Joel is not making great wine, he manages at least four other businesses, including the Palisades Market in Calistoga and Napa Valley's hottest burger stand, Taylor's Refresher, where Robert Parker enjoyed one of his "Most Memorable Meals." If you haven't had the pleasure of trying one of Joel's wines, now's the time to jump aboard! The 2008 vintage of Joel Gott Zinfandel is a blend of 96% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah and 1% Alicante Bouchet, combining grapes from Napa, Sonoma, Lodi and Amador. The Lodi and Amador vineyards are old, dry-farmed, gnarly head-trained vines which produce concentrated fruit. Adding the depth of Napa Valley fruit and the spiciness from cool Sonoma grapes creates a blend that shows off the best of California Zinfandel. The wine is a deep ruby/purple in color with a vibrant nose of black raspberry, black cherry, plum, cola, tobacco and spicy oak. Medium/full in body, it is bright and assertive with soft tannins and bold flavors of black cherries, raspberries, plums, maple and spice. Aged for 10 months in 30% new American oak, 70% 2- and 4-year-old French oak barrels. Well structured and complex, it offers beautiful balance and a long, smooth finish.Enjoy Joel Gott Zinfandel with your Thanksgiving turkey, or with roast chicken, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and cheeses.
A great Zinfandel for the price. It’s dry and elegant, with a mouthfeel somewhere between Pinot Noir and Merlot. Really balanced, with soft tannins and acids framing oak-tinged berry and spice flavors. With 30,000 cases produced, it should be easy to find.
For this intense wine, Gott sources the fruit from some of the best growing areas for Zin — Lodi, Amador and Napa Valley. Deep ruby color, aromas of vanilla, anise, wild strawberries and cherries swirl from the glass along with a hint of milk chocolate. On the palate, tart red raspberry joins the flavor profile and lifts the wine to a mouthwatering, refreshing level. Impressive and irresistible!
Zinfandel of this quality and price is hard to come by. Here’s a fine example of the grape at its best: blackberries, black cherries and fresh pepper nuances all backed up with firm yet approachable tannins.
Winemaker Notes - The 2008 Joel Gott California Zinfandel boasts aromas of cocoa, raspberries, and ripe strawberries. On the palate the wine is round and juicy with flavors of pepper, anise, dark cherry and spice, ending with a lingering finish.
Our Zinfandel vineyards are in the top growing regions in California: Napa, Sonoma, Lodi and Amador. This wine reflects the soil and environment of each distinct location. The vineyards in Lodi and Amador are old head-trained vines, which are dry-farmed and produce deeply concentrated fruit. This fruit combined with the depth of Napa Valley fruit and the spiciness from cool Sonoma County, creates a blend that truly shows California Zinfandel at its finest. Dark ruby red color with supple, mouth filling tannins that offer lively acid structure and an elegant balance. Classic currant, plum and sweet oak aromas lead to ripe berries, cherry, and spicy flavors with a long, sweet and juicy finish.
The 2006 Zinfandel is a welcome edition to a long line of can't-miss wines from famed California winemaker Joel Gott. Plush and richly textured, this wine boasts copious amounts of juicy red and black fruit flavors. Superb with steaks, pork roast and other savory meat dishes, yet with so much fruit I can easily imagine serving it with pizza and wings.
