What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

This is an expressive blend of classic, old zinfandel vineyards in the best grape-growing regions. Many of the vineyards are old, dry farmed, gnarly head-trained vines which produce concentrated fruit. This wine is dark ruby red color with supple and mouth filling tannins that lend to structure, depth, and an elegant balance. Classic currant, plum and sweet oak aromas lead to juicy black fruit, cherry, and spicy flavors with a long sweet and juicy finish.

Our 2007 California Zinfandel balances rich andgraceful flavors characteristic of each regionfarmed. Dry-farmed, old-head-trained vines in Lodi and Amador produce intense, structured fruit while the Napa Valley harvest adds power, depth and complexity. Fruit from the cooler climate of Sonoma County offers classic Zinfandel aromatics of pepper and anise. Together, these diverse regions produce a Zinfandel packed with flavors of licorice, plums, Bing cherries and blackberries with a deep, long finish.

The 2005 vintage is our second bottling of a Mohr-Fry vineyard designate. The fruit is sourced from 50-80 year old head pruned vines in Lodi and has been farmed by the Mohr-Fry family for generations. sourced from 50-80 year old head pruned vines in Lodi and has been farmed by the Mohr-Fry family for generations. This wine is a classic Zinfandel with aromas of black cherry, blueberries, clove, and cola. The flavors are fresh, ripe berry and spice with juicy and soft tannins with a full mid palette and long finish.

My wife and I consider this to be our "house wine" as it is always a big hit with guests. The taste is great, smooth and mouth filling with a nice finish. It pairs very well with a variety of foods. Great wine at a great price.

A Morrell favorite! Good structure on the palate, sweet dark bing cherry flavors, and pepper and spice aromas. This wine gets better every year!

All those stupid, plush, soft, blackberries...damn why do reviews have to be so homogenous? This wine is the pizza wine, but honestly, that last bottle i had there may have been some RS in the wine...oh, wait, that's zinfandel and the higher the alochol, the better the scores. add some ice cubes...
