Joel Gott Unoaked Chardonnay California 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

TASTING NOTES: The 2016 Joel Gott Unoaked Chardonnay has aromas of melon, pineapple and green apple with hints of lemon and gardenia. On the palate, the wine opens with bright fruit flavors, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and crisp minerality on the finish. WINEGROWING NOTES: The 2016 growing season started off with early bud break followed by a warm spring, with moderate summer temperatures and cooler than usual nights in July and August. These conditions allowed fruit to ripen evenly at a steady pace, making for a well-balanced wine. Fruit from the cool, marine influenced Monterey, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo vineyards provides the wine with its bright fruit flavors and well-balanced acidity. The Napa appellation adds rich fruit flavors that bring depth to the blend, and fruit from Sonoma offers minerality and complexity. WINEMAKING NOTES: After harvest, fruit from each vineyard is whole cluster pressed to retain delicate fruit flavors before being fermented in individual lots. The lots experience a long, cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal characteristics and acidity. Finally, the lots are blended, taking care to balance the characteristics of each vineyard in the wine. BARREL: 100% Stainless Steel ALCOHOL: 13.9%

TASTING NOTES: The 2015 Joel Gott Unoaked Chardonnay has aromas of melon, pineapple, and stone fruit with hints of lemon. On the palate, the wine opens with bright fruit flavors, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and crisp minerality on the finish. WINEGROWING NOTES: Across California, the 2015 growing season started with early bud break followed by a cool spring and moderate summer temperatures. Late summer heatwaves created one of the shortest growing seasons to date, causing fruit to be picked early and harvest to end in September. Fruit from the cool, marine-influenced Monterey and Santa Barbara vineyards provides the wine with its bright fruit flavors and well-balanced acidity. The Napa appellation adds rich fruit flavors that bring depth to the blend, and fruit from Sonoma offers minerality and complexity. Vintage: 2014 10/28/2015

TASTING NOTES: The 2014 Joel Gott Unoaked California Chardonnay has aromas of ripe pear and honeydew melon with floral notes. On the palate, the wine opens with bright citrus and tropical flavors, leading to a round mouthfeel balanced by good acidity, and a long finish. WINEGROWING NOTES: The 2014 growing season was shorter than normal because of a dry winter and a warmer than average spring and summer, causing fruit to mature faster and be picked earlier. Even the cool, marine-influenced Monterey appellation experienced warmer than normal summer nights. These warmer temperatures resulted in intense fruit flavors and softer acidity, particularly in fruit from the Napa and Sonoma appellations. Added minerality and complexity came from Sonoma fruit, helping to create well-balanced wine. WINEMAKING NOTES: Our Chablis-style Chardonnay does not undergo malolactic fermentation and is aged in stainless steel. This style of winemaking preserves the natural acidity, and purity and flavors of the fruit, resulting in an elegant, naturally balanced wine. APPELLATION: California - Monterey, Napa Valley, Sonoma BARREL: 100% Stainless Steel ALCOHOL: 13.9%
