Joel Gott 'No.815' Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2012 Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of cherry, blackberry, cinnamon spice, and vanilla toast. On the front of the palate the wine has silky yet robust tannins, ending with a soft finish and lingering minerality. After harvest, fruit from each vineyard is hand- sorted at our winery and de-stemmed before being fermented in individual lots. The lots are aged for just over a year in oak, and tasted frequently for tannin and flavor development. Finally, the lots are blended to balance the characteristics of each vineyard. " -Winery

CaliforniaJoel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon Blend No 815 is one of those rare wines that makes you feel you must have been undercharged! The 2003 release of Blend No 815 was named in honor of Lucy, oldest daughter of Joel and Sarah, born on August 15, 2003, just in time for the madness of harvest. Food and Wine Magazine declared the inaugural 2003 Joel Gott Cab among the best finds under $20 in the October 2005 issue. Each new release has renewed our faith in Joel Gott as a truly gifted winemaker. The new 2012 vintage just released carries on the tradition of excellence. In a very short time, Joel Gott has established cult status in California winemaking. (We still remember the buzz 12 years ago when the 2000 Joel Gott Zinfandel was presented at a trade tasting in New York!) Aside from making great wines, Joel keeps his hand in several other successful businesses, including Napa Valley's hottest burger stand, Taylor's Refresher, where Robert Parker enjoyed one of his "Most Memorable Meals."Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon Blend No 815 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, picking the best fruit from vineyards in several viticultural areas of California, including Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lodi, Lake County and Paso Robles. Together, these appellations create a balanced, structured wine with aromatics of roasted blue fruit, sweet blackberry and cherry cola with hints of graham cracker and vanilla. The wine enters with dark, concentrated fruit on the palate, velvety tannins on the mid-palate, followed by a long, vibrant finish. It was aged for just over a year in American oak, 26% new barrels. Enjoy Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon Blend No 815 with grilled flank steak, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and cheeses.

Offers engaging and layered aromas of blackberry and dark plum with hints of spice, cedar and vanilla. The polished tannins and velvety texture lead to an elegant and long finish.

A delightful charmer that will appeal to wine drinkers looking for a big, bold serious Cab, and to those that enjoy fruit bomb red blends. An amazing feat, indeed. On the nose there is burst of beautiful dark fruit, including blackberry and stewed prune, with ample sweet cherry and a bit of vanilla wafer. On the palate, intense dark fruit continues, with smooth tannins and a lingering finish that repeats the flavor of stewed prune.
