Together, these appellations create a balanced, structured wine with supple tannins, bright acidity and flavors ofspicy red fruit and rich black fruit that are intensified by aromas of currants, cedar and black tea. The wine is a dark ruby purple in color with soft tannins. It was aged for 15 months in French and American oak, 25% new barrels. The 2003 Cabernet is made from fruit sourced from four appellations (Napa, Sonoma, Mendicino and Lodi), a winning combination that Gott has used in his normal Zinfandel bottling. And the wine is all about a balance between ripe, silky tannins and fruit that is forward without being overripe and prunish.
