User Reviews for Joan Simo les Eres Vinya Velles Priorat

Winemaker's Notes:

94 pts -Robert ParkerThis is one serious wine! At first whiff, aromas of dried and cooked dark berries, cherry, and kirsch liqueur ermerge. These fruit aromas intermingle with leather, loam, and cedar. The palate is expansive and follows through consistently from attack to finish. If you drink this now, I would recommend opening it up for at least an hour or more, or cellar for a decade or more! If you're looking for that special occassion wine, or just want to drink something amazing tonight, this is your wine! -Rob's Staff PickThe 2004 Les Eres Vinya Velles is considerably impressive. It is composed of 55% old-vine Carinena, 30% old-vine Garnacha, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was barrel fermented and aged for 18 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a splendid nose of minerals, scorched earth, mushroom, truffle, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Youthful on the palate, it offers layers of fruit, ripe tannin, and outstanding balance. A bit rustically styled now, several years of bottle age should civilize this wine and it should drink well through 2022.
