Jim Barry Shiraz Clare Valley Mccrae Wood 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

This Shiraz honours the vision of pioneer Clare Valley winemaker Jim Barry. In 1964 Jim purchased 70 acres of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood and planted his first vineyard with Shiraz. It was an inspired choice of both grape variety and location. The nose is an action packed extravaganza of intricacies. A firm foundation of purple/red fruits: Blackberry, Raspberry, Mulberry. A floral perfume of Violets is supported by sweet unobtrusive oak, nutmeg and vanillin. This is a monolithic extravaganza, yet with an elegant and refined palate. Rich and concentrated, Smoky Oak, Density, there is a platform of fruit (plummy, liquorice, black cherry) and finely grained tannins which provide structure for development. TimeIdeal for consumption upon release and will only improve well into the next decade.

Ripe blackberry with eucalyptus. Full and nice finish for price.

Jim Barry the McRae Wood Shiraz 2005 – What a blockbuster! Loads of fruit intertwined with a smoky earthiness make for a muscular wine that deserves a worthy food pairing. Deep, deep purple color foretells the heavy extraction from the ripe fruit. This is a fantastic wine and a good value for the $40 price. Must try!

Subtle tobacco taste, very deep color, wish I had stocked up and held on to it longer.

A dark multi-layered shiraz, with layers of fruit, minerals and a slightly briary savoury edge; has marked nervosity, power and depth; opens slowly, but has a long story to tell. James Halliday. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2005 Jim Barry Shiraz The Armagh 750ml

Inky purple color. Explosively perfumed bouquet of blackberry and blueberry liqueur, licorice, fruitcake, incense and dried violet. Lush and creamy but penetrating, offering sweet, extremely powerful boysenberry and blueberry flavors, molten tannins ... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Inky ruby. Explosively perfumed aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cherry pie, smoked meat and incense. Lush and creamy on the palate, which repeats the black and blue fruit qualities and gains tannic structure with air. For a wine of this size, there... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Smooth and ripe, with hints of eucalyptus and caramel sneaking into the blackberry and tar flavor profile. Finishes with an open texture and refined tannins.
