Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon the Cover Drive 2015

Member Review by rckr1951:

Inky black in the glass with dark cherry, blackberry fruit, anise, earth, spice and a touch of vanilla. Chewy tannins and good acidity lead to a medium length aftertaste. Drink now - 89 points - Paul

Oh wonderful balance in a South Australian Cab. Everything is there but nothing overpowers. Does Jim Barry make a bad wine?

This is one of my favorite wines. It is very reasonably priced for the quality. I highly recommend for people who like wines like big California cabs.

Just opened a bottle this weekend with some steak sandwiches - delicious. Give it a little air for the flavor, acidity, and tannin to come into balance and you won't be disappointed. Dark fruit flavors up front with a hint of licorice. Smooth finsh

Fruit from this vineyard, along with selected parcels of fruit from our family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended to produce a wine that is rich, soft and approachable. Sight: This wine is deep garnet in colour with high clarity. Smell: The nose is very aromatic, displaying primary characters of cassis and dark berries with subtle hints of dried herbs. Taste: The palate is medium bodied and generous, showing fine tannins, highlighted by flavours of blackcurrant, mint and morello cherries. Time: As with previous releases of ‘The Cover Drive’, the wine displays harmonious balance and can be enjoyed now or will reward cellaring for 5 years. - Winery

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 The Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon shows off a vibrant, ripe, black cherry and red plum core with notes of cloves and vanilla plus a hint of spice. Medium to full-bodied with medium levels of finely-grained tannins, it has a crisp acid line, good fruit concentration and a nice long, spicy finish. Drink it now to 2017.

'Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 The Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon presents intense cassis and blackberries aromas with hints of pencil shavings, cloves and bay leaf. Medium-full bodied, it has a medium level of grainy tannins, lively acidity and mouth-filling, very pure berry flavors, finishing long. Drink it now through 2016.' Wine Advocate, 90 Points 'Although there are contradictory statements in the technical background to the wine, it seems this is a Coonawarra/Clare Valley blend (not 100% Coonawarra) that produces a truly enjoyable, delicious red berry and cassis-fruited wine, the tannins and oak on the boundary. Drink whenever you wish.' James Halliday, 90 Points
