The Benbournie region was settled in 1853 by Catholic German friends of local priest, Father Kranewitter. The tiny settlement compromised about 15 mud huts surrounding a Roman Catholic chapel. The nose is mature and refined, intensely varietal with cassis, tobacco leaf, cigar box, cinnamon, nutmeg and rosemary. The palate is generous and seamlessly integrated. The wine is elegant, opulent and lengthy with aristocratic flavours (blackcurrant and mint) and soft silky ripe tannins. Fantastic balance and a refreshing finish.
