Jekel Vineyards Riesling 2005
Winemaking Riesling was hand harvested and sorted to assure consistency, then gently pressed into stainless steel tanks for a slow, cool fermentation. Our Riesling enjoys a touch of Muscat florals and features an off-dry finish with residual sugar at 1.08%, balanced by an acid backbone that keeps this wine in Jekel’s signature style. Average Brix at harvest was 22.5° from relatively young vines averaging a dozen years. Our goal, as always, is to seek the optimal balance between crispness and fruity varietal character, with little notable sweetness, allowing Jekel Riesling to be an exceptional wine for a wide variety of dishes, particularly Pan- Asian cuisine with a touch of spice. Tasting Notes From Winemaker Charlie Gilmore “Here’s an off-dry Riesling that stands up well to spicy food, or celebrated on its own as a wonderful aperitif. Breathe in a wonderful bouquet of ripe pineapple, mandarin Orange, Mango passion fruit and Jasmine alongside tropical notes highlighted with rose petals. Your first sip will find a market basket of fresh fruits, a mélange of refreshing Apricots and pineapple with a rich mouthfeel and good acid balance. The traditional light varietal Petrol nose adds complexity and authenticity. Riesling has always defined Jekel, and this vintage will not disappoint.”
