Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Jeff Gordon Collection Carneros Chardonnay is our fourth release of this most popular varietal and is named for Jeff’s daughter Ella Sofia, born that year. The grapes for this selection come from a 35 year old, Wente Clone Vineyard, planted on the Sonoma County side of Carneros, just south of the town of Sonoma. This wine is pale yellow, straw in color. Aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple & mango mingle with hints of ripe melon, green apple and toasty oak. It is well balanced with a full body and moderate oak. Flavors of passion fruit, caramel, and zesty citrus show through in the long finish. The grapes for this wine were picked at 24.5 brix of sugar, gently hand sorted, whole-cluster pressed, cold settled, inoculated with yeast, and racked to barrels for fermentation. Barrel selection was 30% new Damy, French Oak and 70% two and three year old French oak barrels. After the completion of fermentation, the wine was inoculated with a malo-lactic culture, stirred every other week, and sur-lees aged for 8 months.
