J.N. Gagnard continued: Caroline L'Estimée is quite pleased with her 99s and calls them better than her very good 98s. I have to agree with her as these 99s, as a group, are clearly better than their 98 counterparts. She told me that because the 99s displayed so much baby fat, she did minimal amounts of battonage (stirring of the lees), fearing that the wines might become ponderous and lack elegance with too aggressive a stirring regimen. (from 35 year old vines). Beautifully precise aromas of citrus, white flowers and wet rocks with gorgeous flavors offering intense minerality, notes of toast and damp earth. The length here is outstanding with wave after wave of finishing acidity. Beautifully balanced and the best wine in the cellar today.
