On the nose.. Wet forest with some subtle gamey meat mix with dense fruit and spice. Opulent, full bodied and tightly wound in the mouth with the lingering of pepperiness on the pallate through a long finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

Jean Michel's father, Alfred, was the mayor of Ampuis and one of the great
promotors of Côte Rôtie in days which were far from halcyon, a time
indeed when many of the vignerons were tempted to revert to growing fruit and
olives. Jean Michel, by turns enigmatic, whimsical and gifted, is one of the
leading vignerons of what is now a modern and highly successful appellation.
His Champin Le Seigneur adds 10% of limestone Viognier to the schistous
bed-rock of Northern Syrah. The 2005 is concentrated, spicy and dense, with
notes of sousbois, tea and licorice to embellish the very fine fruit.
(Simon Field MW - BBR Buyer)
