Jean-Luc Colombo les Bartavelles Chateauneuf du Pape 2006
Jean-Luc Colombo was born in Marseilles and originally trained as a pharmacist but in 1986 he bought the 8 hectare 'Les Ruchots ' vineyard in the Cornas appellation. He still lives on that estate, which is now organic, with his wife Anne and daughter Lauren but his business has expanded considerably as he now owns vineyards in many Rhone valley and Languedoc appellations and also operates as a consultant and negociant..
A clear medium ruby colored wine with a pale ruby rim with just a hint of browning. A clean medium intensity youthful nose with aromas of spice, stems, meat, oak, smoke, caramel, vanilla and red fruit (raspberry). Alcohol apparent. Dry medium acidity, medium body, high (hot!) alcohol, and medium soft tannins. Medium intensity flavors of anise, red cassis, fresh meat, herbs and stems. A spicy textured mouthfeel with medium length. A southern Rhone blend with medium complexity. It needs decanting, but doesn't seem like it will age too well. Not for me.
