Food Pairings for Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône White les Abeilles
External Reviews for Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône White les Abeilles
Hailed as the winemaking wizard of the Rhône, Jean-Luc Colombo has achieved a high-profile international reputation for making innovative wines that are original, memorable and bursting with personality. Despite a resolute aversion to change in the Cornas region, Colombo has brazenly introduced innovative methods in his vineyards and throughout the production process based on a respect for nature and his fundamental belief that good wine is the culmination of three key elements: terroir, human endeavor and modern winemaking techniques. The result? A more accessible style of Rhône Valley wines, reflecting an exuberance of fruit and depth of expression and showcasing the full potential of the Syrah grape when grown in the unique terroir of Cornas. Through his intense dedication, Colombo has brought the wines of Cornas into the international limelight. The company now embraces wines representing major appellations of the Rhône Valley as well as the Languedoc and Roussillon regions of southern France. Production Area Grapes are hand-picked from 60-year-old vines on a single vineyard site of steep granite terraces. The vineyards are located in Crozes-Hermitage, which is located in the Northern Rhone valley, on the left bank of the Rhone River. All work in the vineyards is done manually and without the use of pesticides or irrigation, respecting the local environment. Grape Varieties 100% Syrah Vinification Grapes are harvested by hand into small, shallow containers and vinified traditionally, undergoing a lengthy maceration in the process. The wine is aged 15 months in oak barrels ranging from one to two years in age. Color Dark purple Taste A wonderful combination of the New World & Old World styles as this wine has lots of fresh cherry and black plum fruit flavors against an intense, spicy, mineral background. This wine has a silky texture and a glossy finish. Alcohol 13% Serving Suggestions Pairs well with red meats, hearty pasta dishes with garlic and red sauce, barbecue and aged cheeses.
Color: Soft, delicate salmon pink. Bouquet: Subtle hints of peach, rose petal and soft pepper on the nose. Taste: Round and full of finesse. Surprisingly complex, with intriguing notes of raspberries, fresh cherry, black olive and fennel. Serving Suggestions: A great rosé to enjoy on its own or with a wide range of appetizers, fish, poultry dishes and vegetarian fare. A perfect wine to share with friends.
