Very tightly wound, but the purity of the plum, blueberry, cherry eau-de-vie and dark currant fruit is impressive, with sleek, well-integrated toast and a very long, violet- and iron-filled finish that just sails on. Best from 2013 through 2021. 280 ... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas la Louvee 750ml
Vallon de l'Aigle Cornas 2009 - 92 points, Wine Enthusiast/ A surprisingly supple Cornas, the 2009 “Valley of the Eagle” delivers rich plum and smoke notes. It’s an already approachable, mouthfilling, superripe Syrah that should express its origins more clearly in about 10 years.
"Vallon de I'Aigle" Cornas 2007 - Sommelier Journal/ ... This is a wine of great persistence. It shows ample fruit, but a splash of acidity keeps it light in the mouth. Ripe tannins and a wonderfully extended finish complete the package.
Vallon de l'Aigle 2009 - Sante/ Complex aromas with floral, cassis, cooking spice, and oak. Powerful flavors of ripe black fruit, blueberry compote, cigar box, tea, black pepper, toasted caramel, and clove. Soft on the palate, with a long, balanced finish, ending with a hint of violets. A luscious Syrah.
Vallon de l'Aigle 2009 - 93 points, International Wine Cellar/ Bright purple. Fresh blackberry and cassis aromas are complicated by cracked pepper, violet and pungent herbs. Suave, alluringly sweet dark berry flavors are underscored by smoky mineral and floral qualities and lifted by tangy acidity. Grows spicier with aeration, finishing with notes of star anise and black pepper and superb length.
Hailed as the winemaking wizard of the Rhône, Jean-Luc Colombo has achieved a high-profile international reputation for making innovative wines that are original, memorable and bursting with personality. Despite a resolute aversion to change in the Cornas region, Colombo has brazenly introduced innovative methods in his vineyards and throughout the production process based on a respect for nature and his fundamental belief that good wine is the culmination of three key elements: terroir, human endeavor and modern winemaking techniques. The name Force 1 is derived from the eagle that lives at the top of the vertiginous hills of Cornas and is immortalized on the label. This wild parcel of land has become a truly magical place as the eagle has become almost a protecting figure. All of the strength of the eagle is embodied in the wine that is made out of this micro-vineyard; both racy and powerful while maintaining its civility and elegance. From this steep granite slope one can see the Rhone River gently flowing with a breathtaking and exceptional view of the valley. On the left bank of the river, the mountains of the Vercors dominate and contribute to bringing magical vibes to the land. Vallon de l’Aigle (or Valley of the Eagle) is a very limited bottling that is produced only in the best years. Production Area The grapes for this wine are sourced from a small parcel of land in Cornas that is cultivated by hand like a garden. Yields are extremely low, only about 3 clusters per vine, and the grapes are de-stemmed by hand. The vineyard stands at an altitude of about 1000 feet above sea level. Grape Varieties 100% Syrah Vinification Only the best berries are kept and undergo fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. The juice is free run only; not pressed. The fermentation process consists of 2 days of pre-maceration at very low temperatures of 50°F, fermentation for 8 days at a maximum temperature of 79°F, and then post-fermentation maceration for 20 days at 82°F. Malolactic fermentation is done in barrels, the wine is fined with egg whites and it is unfiltered. Color Deep ruby red color, with brilliant purple reflections Bouquet Very complex nose with subtle aromas of flowers, blueberries and mulberries. Taste Silky with floral notes of iris and violets with round and harmonious tannins Alcohol 13.6% Serving Suggestions Pairs exceptionally well with game, beef stew, or lamb dishes.
Color : A superb deep red. Nose: Powerful, rich, complex: black fruit, gunflint, licorice, garrigue enhanced by a well mastered maturing in top quality oak. Palate: Harmonious and elegant, La Louvée exhibits a phenomenal concentration. One can appreciate the balance between the body and the structure. The long finish is enhanced by mature and silky tannins.
Aged 18 months in French Oak.
