Editorial Reviews for Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
This is very animale and agressively smokey in the glass with a core of black earthy fruit lurking underneath. Slowly notes of parsley root and a deeply imbedded green streak emerge from the dense cocoa tinged core. Offering excellent integration on the palate, this is a smaller scaled Chave more in line with vintages like 1995 and 1985 than some of the better endowed years. The mineral note that appears on entry drapes across the palate and offers contrast to the dried strawberry fruit that gains sweetness with air. Lovely and faceted if low amplitude at this point, the fruit has a mouthwatering stoniness to it and a lovely suggestion of gingerbread emerges with time. This could use another 3-5 years to really peak but has begun to show well already 92pts
