Jean Gardies Mas las Cabes Cotes du Roussillon 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from a shop in London [www.oddbins.com] Cotes du Roussillon is an appellation created in 1997,although there has been viticulture here since at least the ancient Greeks, for red, white and rose wines made from at least three grape varieties, from 118 communes between Perpignan and the Spanish border and stetching up in to the hills.Cotes du Roussillon Villages is an appellation also created in 1997 for red wines only from 25 of those communes along the river Agly.My bottle comes from a well established family business and consists of 50% syrah,30% grenache,10% carignan and 10% mourverde.Mas las Cabes is a 15 hectare vineyard bought by the Gardies family in 1990 near the village of Espira de l'Agly.I started my bottle last night with my supper of cold meats and salad. It is very dark in colour. It is a super-dry wine but with plenty of a blackberry, bramble and licorice style fruit. The tannins are fairly soft. In short, this is a clovely wine that went well with the cold meats

Very dark color. Nose of sweet floral and mild turpentine and strong red-black fruit. On the attack and in the mouth alluring off-dry, strong, sweet and sour ripe red and black fruit - blackberry, black cherry. Finishes of fruit. Good QPR.
