Jc Cellars Zinfandel Sonoma Valley Iron Hill 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Varietals: 96% Zinfandel, 4% Petite Syrah
Appellation: Sonoma Valley
Alcohol: 15.8%

Comments: Planted in 2000, Iron Hills "old vines" flavor profile belies its age. It contains a sweet, concentrated briery fruit component of cherries and raspberries. This "briery" effect is a term usually used to describe "old vine" Zinfandels of 75-100 years old, with prickly black pepper-like flecks on the tongue. This spicy finish is complimented by great depth and intensity. In a short period of time the volcanic rock soil, cooke clone, organic farming, and cropping at one ton per acre combine to give this vineyard its "old vine" effect.

Welcome to Jeff Cohn Cellars, producers of hand-crafted single vineyard wines specializing in Rhône varietals inspired by Jeff's special relationships with some of the top Rhône winemakers in France. From his many years at the helm at Rosenblum Jeff continues to have a passion for making single vineyard Zinfandels from some of the finest AVAs in California. Renowned for Rhône style wines, and hailed as one of the masters of Zinfandel, Jeff Cohn Cellars founder and winemaker marries his passion for classic French style winemaking with a spirited Californian sense of innovation to craft elegant wines that showcase terroir. Jeff's winemaking includes using native yeasts and various alternative fermentation vessels including a concrete egg, terra cotta amphora, and small to large format barrels that bring out the minerality and purety of fruit. The reviews from vintage to vintage showcase Jeff's dedication to making the finest wine that each vineyard will yield.
