Jaume Serra Cava Semi Seco NV
Cristalino is always a solid go-to Cava. This brut is round, slightly yeasty and shows citrus aromas that veer toward lemon-lime. The palate is healthy and clean, with a narrow set of citrus and apple flavors. Fairly full and long on the finish, which makes the whole package more than worthwhile given the cost.
Jaume Serra, the winery producing Cristalino Cava, was founded in 1943 by Jaume Serra Guell in the Garraf zone of the Penedes in Catalonia, Spain. The “El Padruell” estate presiding over the vineyard slopes was built in 1647. The winery was purchased and renovated in 1997 by the J Carrión group. The wines are produced using yeasts imported from Champagne, France and are made in the Methode Tradicional.
Editorial Reviews for Jaume Serra Cava Semi Seco
Lightly floral on the nose with hints of white flowers over gentle apple fruit with a squirt of lime, simple but fresh. In the mouth this shows off lovely citrus fruit over a nice integrated base of yeasty complexity. Rather light and distinctly fresh in the mouth, this is easy to drink and finishes on the dry side with refreshing dried citrus and mineral flavors. 86pts
Dusty on the nose and slightly vegetal, with some sweet herbal elements and a bit of gum. Not terribly effervescent and rather vinous, making this easy to drink. It’s got a touch of sweetness, but that is well balanced by the wine’s acidity which also supports the slightly candied strawberry/cherry/watermelon fruit on the mid-palate. The finish is clean and brisk if on the short side. This is a fun wine, fruity and easy to drink. 85pts
Dark rum and strawberries in the nose. Nice dry body with delicate herbal notes, nice fruit. A little bit metallic on the finish. Pretty nice.
This is a wonderfully dry cava that is crisp and refreshing. This is not a buttery oaky sparkler.
The best value I've ever found in a sparkling wine to date!! I can't believe the complexity I experience in this wine given its low price point. Pale yellow with just a hint of green. Clean, fresh, and fruity but with unexpected depth coming from yeasty/bread-like notes and something more cutting yet savoury (like graphite or nut skins). Very dry. An incredible value.
Can't do much better for $7 in a sparkler. Better choice than their regular brut. Good red fruit & minerality.
Refreshing Brut Nature. Distinct lemon and citrus flavours, though not enough in the way of a "peel" texture for me. Went very well with pancakes and real Canadian maple syrup though!
Golden straw color. Toasted smell. Persistent bubbles. It has some "beer-like" sensations that i can not precise. (Jaume Serra brut nature)
I absolutely love this cava! Smooth, well rounded and it tastes more expensive than it is. Beautifully bubbly and not so heavy on apple like so many of the cheaper bubblies. Great for everyday type drinking

Salmon-colored and dense, with aromas of clay, cherry and brown sugar. Pinot Noir-ish in its smoky, dried-berry palate and peppery finish. Robust, solid and with texture.
A perennial favorite, this offers clean apple flavors at an unusually affordable price for such a completely dry style. It is a great party pour, or an aperitif to sip with raw clams.
With its strawberry liqueur scent and peppery fruit flavor, this is a fine, lightly sweet Cava for a Sunday picnic in the park.
Light bodied with fruity aromas and notes of rose hip, eucalyptus, and flowers. Austere, with a short, crisp finish. Aperitif.
Lovely aromas of toast, yeast and minerals. Well-balanced, good texture and structure, with soke tart apple flavors; long, zippy finish. Roast fowl.
A little cidery and funky smelling at first, but it settles to show stalky notes, scallion, tarragon and citrus flavors. Layered in feel but a bit green tasting throughout.
