What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

High Roller begins with a smooth entry leading to a round, concentrated and velvety evolution. There is a lively aspect to the mid-palette, supported by mouth-coating tannins. The finish is refined, elegant, long and showing great balance. You'll find aromas of black cherry, black currant, ripe plum, cassis, milk chocolate, cloves, and toasty oak. Vineyard notes: Rutherford Bench, Oakville Bench, and Coombsville. Warm days coupled with cool nights lead to slow, even ripening, which have created a wine with power and elegance. The grapes for High Roller were cultivated in benchland (51%) and hillside (49%) vineyards, translating to a complex wine with excellent color and ample acidity to pair with a wide array of cuisines. The tannins in High Roller are abundant yet fine-grained, powerful yet elegant. Winemaking notes: Hand-harvested / Small-lot fermentations / 3-day cold soak / Attentive extraction/ Minimal manipulation / Blend of maceration times ranging from 14-40 days / Quarterly racking for natural clarification.    (hide)
