Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fresh, spicy and fun on the nose with plenty of black pepper flecked, jammy, smoky strawberry fruit. Fairly sweet but for many people this is just what they’ve been waiting for. It’s intensely fruity but not that large scaled with good structure. The jammy wild berry fruit tones linger on the finish. This is simple and simply a whole lot of fun! 87pts

One thing the label got right for certain is 'sweet'. A bit dry, oaken finish, it's a transitioning medley of these three in this order. Although not my thing, After one glass, the oak takes over for me and is no longer of interest. All depends on the character a person looks for in a wine I suppose.

Flavors of peach, apricot and honey all in one bottle. Fresh, fruity and easy drinking.

Really really good. A sweeter wine that's more than just a plain sugar bomb-has a bit more depth, well balanced but definitely a fruity wine.

This sounded so much fun, so gave it a try. Sadly, I am not a huge fan. It's far too sweet for my palette. My husband wouldn't even finish his glass (unheard of!). I gave most of the bottle to a neighbor, who really enjoyed it. I guess it all depends on your preferences!

Not all the best sweet reds come from New York State! This medium sweet Shiraz from South Africa is a spectacular bottle for the picnic table. Bright red raspberry and bramble berry fruits abound on the palate, making it a terrific accompaniment to fruit salads, snacks and sandwiches. Fans of Bella Rosa, Red Zeppelin and Alta B should definitely give this one a try!
