What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

Crafted in a lighter style than your typical Shiraz, this fresh, fruity, semi-sweet wine displays aromas and flavors of ripe blueberries, blackberries and raspberries with dark chocolate undertones. Refreshing and approachable with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, it makes a great aperitif and pairs equally well with meat dishes, cheeses, and desserts. Best served slightly chilled.

Editorial Reviews

Fresh, spicy and fun on the nose with plenty of black pepper flecked, jammy, smoky strawberry fruit. Fairly sweet but for many people this is just what they’ve been waiting for. It’s intensely fruity but not that large scaled with good structure. The jammy wild berry fruit tones linger on the finish. This is simple and simple a whole let of fun! 87pts

Costco was featuring this wine last week so I decided to pick up a a couple bottles to have on hand for a cocktail party. Well, did this wine turn heads?!! I opened up a bottle to share over assorted meats and thought it was a perfect companion. The fruit makes a statement, but not too strong. A nice, lively wine.

A pretty rosy magenta color. Fairly strong and sweet on the nose. Taste deliciously sweet, raspberries, strawberries, a spoonful of grape jam all in the mix. all red and fruity! light on the tannins. Just an absolutely fun and fruity wine to drink. the finish was light and lingered for a while before disappearing into splash of a strawberry lollipop.

Think berries! Raspberry, blackberry with hints of dark chocolate. Fresh and beautifully balanced. Really enjoyed this wine with cheese. Fun wine!

Just polished off a bottle of this with the wife - what a fun wine. The name is perfect. The sweet is more of a honey sweet than a berry sweet. The sweet is not overpowering, but can be a bit unsettling the first few sips. It's kinda what I imagine Red Mead would taste like.

I agree with all of the reviews above - above average sweetness, very cute label, highly drinkable. My boyfriend found this a little too sweet, as he prefers a more dry wine.

We tried this wine when it was labeled as "Escape Sweet Shiraz." It was a huge success at a local wine tasting. After the copyright issue I was told the "Jam Jar" was the exact same wine by one vendor and that it was not as good as the previous "Escape" by another. I agree with the latter. It lacks the smoked paprika finish of the "Escape" and just leaves me feeling like I drank Kool-aid. If you just want sweet, go for it. If you want the complexities of a shiraz, try something else. Any suggestions?
