Jadot Bonnes Mares 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

95-99 points Fine Wine Review: Bonnes-Mares seems to operate as somewhat of a flagship wine for Jadot, being brought out on many of the most serious occasions to impress, and that certainly will be the case with this wine some decades ahead. The wine has layered dark fruits with freshness and finesse, almost laciness, along with great intensity. (2/13/17)

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. Lovely nose here with notes of underbrush and herbs contrasting the hightoned notes of dark fruit and spice reminding of anise. lean and taut in the mouth yet ripe if note opulent. in fact with time a touch of astringency mars the otherwise attractive spice rich midpalate with it's very pure cherry and cherry pit fruit. the finish is subtle, short and strict. This requires time to tame the structure but I am skeptical about the wines balance ever improving and dont feel enough depth of fruit to give me any long term confidence for cellaring. Enjoy these over the shorter term 2008-2011

Fairly dark in the glass. Very rich nose--earthy, minty, leathery. Medium bodied on the palate. Light berry fruit on the tip of the tongue. Some acid tartness as the wine moves back over the palate. Some tannin around the edge, but nothing significant. Slightly more tartness on the finish. US$13.99 at Costco.

Fruity - the plum, cherry, raspberries come through more than earthy flavors. Very light and smooth.

This is a classic expression of Burgundian Pinot Noir, with a refined, aromatic nose of ripe red berries and toasty, earthy nuances leading into an elegant palate of delicately structured tannins and a clean finish.
