Jade Mountain Syrah Napa Valley 2004

Member Review by cgplayer9:

I have never had a wine that smelled more like blackberry cobler!. Very dark tasting - black and blue berries with slight meatiness, some vanilla and almost coconut flavors from the oak. Moderate peppery finish.

History Since 1988, Jade Mountain has been a pioneer in the production of age-worthy Rhône-style California wines. The winery was founded with the belief that carefully chosen California vineyard sites planted to Rhône grape varieties can achieve quality on-par with the best from the Rhône region in France. Jade Mountain creates world-class wines by pushing the limits of grape-growing and winemaking for the extract, flavor and richness that comes with the California sun and its individual expressions of Rhône varietals. The steep, terraced shale slopes are ideal for Syrah because of the cool, yet sun-drenched, climate and low-vigor soils. The vineyard is farmed terrace by terrace, with each row individually cared for. This same care is used at each of the vineyards from which we source grapes for Jade Mountain's wines. The grapes are picked by hand, then fermented in small lots to retain their unique character. All of these factors result in meager production, but high-quality wine Read less

This 2004 Syrah shows black cherry and cassis aromas, with hints of toasty wood. Big flavors of chewy coffee and black fruit are followed by a rolling chocolate finish.
