Velvety and inviting, our 2009 Jade Mountain Merlot brims with dark-fruit expression reminiscent of ripe black cherry and juicy plum. "I added Petit Verdot for high tones of violet in the aromas and for its more firmly structured tannins, which complement the Merlot's plusher, softer ones," says Winemaker Domenica Totty. "The tannins play well with the dark chocolate-cherry notes on the palate and carry them through the persistent finish. We aged a portion of the wine in new Hungarian oak barrels to complete the flavor profile with caramel and spice nuances." - WineryVarietal Composition:88% Merlot12% Petit VerdotHarvest Dates: Late September to early OctoberBarrel Aging: 30% barrel aged for 7 months, 15% new Hungarian oakAppellation: California49% Mendocino CountyPaso Robles AVA in San Luis Obispo County4 % MontereyAlcohol: 13.5%Acidity: 6.0 g/LpH: 3.73Ageability: 2011 to 2014
